Nurse Practitioners with Heart: Heather Jordan

When Heather Jordan, pediatric cardiology nurse practitioner, graduated from the University of Louisville and an accelerated nursing program, she wanted to apply to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Coming from out of state, she wasn’t sure how to begin the process, so she decided to take the direct route by calling the charge nurses of the units where she wanted to work. Luckily, she was quickly rerouted to Human Resources, and she started in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) in 2016, where she worked at the bedside for five years.

Heather became a staff nurse in outpatient cardiology before transitioning to her current nurse practitioner position at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Cardiology in 2022.  She says she and her team have fun working and serving families together every day.

“Many of my co-workers feel like extended family, and I know they truly care about me as a person,” Heather said. “When things get stressful, there’s always someone I can call who will kindly answer any question I have or help me solve a complex problem.”

Heather said the opportunity to work alongside and learn from the excellent providers and specialists at Children’s Cardiology makes her job interesting and fulfilling, and she enjoys forming long-term relationships with her patients and their families.

“It’s very meaningful when I’m able to share good news with families and watch the weight lift from their shoulders,” she said.

Heather said that outside of work, she loves to spend time with her family including her young children, Parker and Nolan, who keep her smiling. She also enjoys cooking, traveling and being outdoors. She has even been skydiving, which “was exhilarating, but I nearly passed out before jumping out of the plane!”

Heather Jordan sees patients at our Alpharetta, Lawrenceville and Center for Advanced Pediatrics clinics and is part of our Aorta and Vascular program at Children’s Cardiology and the Dysautonomia program at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Heart Center. Her areas of focus are general pediatric cardiology, aortic disease and inherited cardiac disease/cardiac genetics.
